WATER RATES TO BE INCREASED

 

Municipal Services Commission’s (MSC) rate design consultant, Utility Financial Solutions (UFS), recommended a 5% overall water revenue increase after reviewing the cost of service study.  There will be no changes in the MSC electric rates.  The water rate increase will be effective with the April 2021 bills and results in an average residential customer experiencing an increase in their monthly bill of approximately $2.60.  MSC is sensitive to customers experiencing additional financial burden during this national crisis (COVID-19 pandemic), please reach out to the customer service department at 302-323-2330 to find out about agencies that provide assistance.

The successful candidate will have experience in financial statement preparation and analysis, payroll/human resource functions, budget preparation and leadership skills.  Knowledge of government administration, utility management and regulatory requirements is a plus.  The Comptroller will have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting (or related field) with 5+ years of experience.  CPA preferred but not required. IMPORTANT NOTICE TO OUR WATER CUSTOMERS

There will be an interruption of water service on Friday, January 8th in the area of 9th Street, 10th Street, and Clayton Street.

The interruption will be for repairing a water main leak at the intersection of 9th and Clayton Street.  The outage is expected to last from 8:00am until 3:00pm, but could last longer due to unforeseen complications.  The interruption may cause some discoloration of the water and allow air to enter the system.  Should you experience these conditions, please run your water until it is clear and the air has escaped from the system.

 Please plan for the interruption by storing sufficient water for your needs.

 The Municipal Services Commission requests your cooperation during this outage and regrets any inconvenience it may cause to our customers.

POWER OUTAGE

Update Municipal Services Commission Electric Crews are aware of a power outage in the area of RT 273 (Frenchtown Road) and Centerpoint Boulevard affecting Centerpoint Park.  We are assessing the issue and working to restore to power as safely and quickly as possible.  Currently we do not have an estimatede restoration time.  We appreciate your understanding and will update this notice as we  gather more information.

Your neighbors need your help. Although everyone has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, some are now in crisis. City of New Castle residents who have lost their job or source of income are struggling to pay their bills and don’t know how they will meet their expenses over the next few weeks. MSC Offices Closed to the Public but staff still working to assist customers:  Due to the state of emergency for the State of Delaware due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), MSC offices will be open and working, but closed to the public effective March 16, 2020 until further notice.  MSC customers are able to make payments online, over the phone (866-236-8299), dropbox located in the front of 216 Chestnut St and through the mail.  Applications can be obtained online, via email or picked up from the InfoBox in the front of 216 Chestnut St.  If  residents have questions please call 323-2330.  Over the past week, the Municipal Services Commission of the City of New Castle (MSC) has taken measures to address the COVID-19 pandemic.  Since the Governor issued a State of Emergency on March 13, 2020, the MSC has been meeting with City of New Castle leaders and local Emergency first responders daily to promote communication in an effort to make informed decisions. Emergency Response Plans have been updated to ensure electric and water service to the citizens of New Castle.  The MSC has also been communicating with other utility providers and have reaffirmed their Mutual Aid agreements are in place.  These agreements promote cooperation and assistance from other Delaware municipalities and communities throughout the country.  In addition to these steps, the MSC began team isolation of its staff to limit the risk of personnel becoming infected. Thorough and ongoing cleaning is taking place at all MSC locations and public exposure has been limited by performing functions via on-line and telephone.  We appreciate the communities continued understanding and cooperation during these unusual circumstances.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the MSC at 302-323-2330.
