MSC Lead Service Line Inventory

MSC Lead Service Line Inventory

Attention Municipal Services Commission Water Users:

The MSC Water Department has been working on a city-wide comprehensive water service line material inventory for the water distribution system. Service line material is material used to distribute water from the city’s water main into a facility, and generally consists of two parts (a public and private side). The public side is utility owned and runs from the water main to a shutoff valve/curb stop near the sidewalk or property line. The private side runs from the shut off valve/ curb stop into the resident’s home. The MSC is responsible for the public side.

Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) put forth new legislation referred to as the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions.  One element of the LCRI required water systems to develop and publish a water service line inventory for both the utility and customer owned portions of the water service line.

Our initial inventory submission was completed by MSC in partnership with 120 Water and was submitted on October 9, 2024. Please click on the link below to view our public transparency dashboard to access the inventory:

MSC emphasizes this inventory aligns with the new EPA LCRR rule requirements and is to enhance protection for our customers.  Completing this initiative is not the result of any concerns related to lead in the MSC water system.  MSC lead and copper levels are tested triennially following EPA guidelines and both elements are well below the required action levels.  MSC’s 2023 Annual Consumer Confidence Report has details about our water system and water quality.  Copies are available at our Administrative Office and on-line at our web site.
